Believe it or not, I am convinced that we, as a community have gone through many cycles. When I first joined deviantART in 2005, the community was based so much on 'spreading the love', 'having fun', 'submitting art', etc etc. You could find on a typical deviation at least 20 comments and equal amount of favourites. I guess in this case, I can use a metaphor. I really felt like dA was a typical sunshining day. I was an "inbound" or a novice, if you like (Newcomer is invested in the community and heading towards full participation).
Then I became an insider. I was logging on regularly, enthused by what I saw on this website. Spectacular art, friendly people, huge hearts and a general welcoming community.
I looked up to the recognised faces of deviantART. Those who show us what it is to be a fantastic, commited artist with high goals and dreams. Everyone has dreams.
Now I look to the outbounders. The elders. The people who have been on deviantART since the beginning and seem to have some inspiring wisdom about art, commenting, and generally being helpful to other people. I could name countless people I have spoken to in chatrooms and they show me what the community is all about.
When they show this part of deviantART to me, I feel more inclined to submit and participate, don't you?
In any case, we as a community seem to be flooded and drowned in other's popularity contest. We don't seem to be helping this problem either. I don't want to go onto the Today page and see "Popular Deviants" and their pageviews. What does that mean to me? What does that message send to us as a community? We're largely basing "amazing art" on those who are getting thousands of pageviews everyday. I can name one person right now who has the most stunningly beautiful gallery I have ever seen. ~
sava2205 has only around 5,000 pageviews, and does she complain about the lack of attention she recieves? No.
I want to be able to go onto the Today's page and concentrate on what matters most. The forgotten acceptance of unknown art. Before we are riddled with the so-called importance of popularity, let's not forget those artists who are having a fighting chance bringing their work onto deviantART.
I felt the need to bring this up, you don't have to agree. I'm not bitching because I know alot of these popular artists have amazing art, and deserve the credit, but let's not forget who will be the future of dA too.
Thanks for reading.
Yup! I had a pretty spectacular weekend. Considering I spent 48 hours with gastro, my weekend was quite busy. On Saturday, I went out by myself for some macro shots, and got a couple of myself. I rang Natalie up and organised to go out and see Sex and the City with her. It was such a funny movie (and I think I liked Samantha best in this one). We had a pretty good time, but I drank too much coke zero and had to duck out half way.

On Sunday, I cleaned the house a little, did homework on my bed and Charlie came around for dinner (in his new car

). We watched Sweeney Todd and Emma got a few Sex and the City episodes. I think I fortell an obsession there.

That sums up my weekend, and I hope you all enjoyed yours too. What did you do? <33
On a random funny note: When I was at work last Thursday, I got there early and decided to open the door outside and say hello to the kiddies. I was holding the door, when a little toddler screamed "Saraaaaahhh" and ran towards me. I gave her a hug and went to shut the door (still holding it). She went to help me and slammed it shut. On my middle finger. I held my breath and rushed for ice. I thought my fingernail was a goner.

Luckily it's just black but oweee it hurt!!!

This is a message personally from me to say thank you for all the favourites, comments, watches and views on my gallery. You have no idea what it means to me to have that kind of support here on dA. So thank you from the bottom of my heart. Those messages make me smile everytime I log on!!
These are either people who watch me, or people who deserve some attention!

Don't forget to get
Firefox3. It's out now, and it's amazing! I'm loving it! I promise you that it's so much more faster than the old version, and it craps on IE.

Life is hard.
And so am I.
The newer ones come and they either wind up as pageview-whores or get involved in the actual art and community side of dA. Some PW's become reformed as they stay, and some leave.

Kit, "How about your love life?"
Steve, "That should occupy all of ten seconds. My love life is like the Loch Ness Monster - rumours of its existence are greatly exaggerated."
-Killing the Shadows, Val McDermid.
Hey, my dad is going to take the S3 into Canon some time during the week to get it fixed or replaced. I'll let you know the second it comes in.
Also, I'm saving up to get myself a big zoom lens! We can snap off a few shots from the freeway overpass when i get it
I took some shots of the opening of the freeway actually, if you want to see I'll note you it. Apparently there was 70,000 people. But in my shots it only looked like a few hundred.

Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody's going to know whether you did it or not.

I forget when I joined DA now, but I've never had time to really get involved in chat or forums here. I just do what I do.
